Octocon at 30

Last updated 9 October 2020

Octocon is 30 years old this year! It was first held in October 1990 at the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire – its chair was Helen Ryder and its Guest of Honour was Terry Pratchett.

Since then it’s become one of the cornerstones of Irish SFF fandom, featuring guests over the years such as Robert Holdstock, Storm Constantine, Harry Harrison, Kim Newman, Anne McCaffrey, J G Jones, Liz Williams, George RR Martin, Gail Simone, Pat Cadigan and too many more to list. This year we’re delighted to have 30-year attendee, former chair, and premier 2000AD writer Michael Carroll as our Guest of Honour, along with the first chairs Helen and Philippa Ryder as our Fan Guests of Honour.

Read some memories of Octocon, view some old photos and follow some links back into the past….

And it’s not too late to send your own contributions to anniversary@octocon.com!
